The Olympic Games
AThe Olympic Games began in ancient Greece, where athletic contests were held every four years at Olympia in honour of the god Zeus. These ancient games continued for many centuries before being abolished, and were revived in their modern form only in 1896.
BThe modern Games have grown into the world's largest sporting event, bringing together thousands of athletes from almost every nation. A separate Winter Olympics was later added for sports played on snow and ice, and the Paralympic Games now follow each Olympics for athletes with disabilities.
