Why the sky is blue
ASunlight, though it looks white, is actually made up of many colours, each with a different wavelength. As sunlight passes through the atmosphere, it collides with tiny gas molecules. Blue light, which travels in shorter waves, is scattered in all directions far more strongly than the longer red waves.
BThis scattered blue light reaches our eyes from every part of the sky, which is why the sky looks blue. At sunset, sunlight travels through much more of the atmosphere, and most of the blue is scattered away before it reaches us, leaving the reds and oranges we see on the horizon.
