What is IPMAT?
IPMAT — the Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test — is the entrance exam for the five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM), an IIM degree you can enter straight after Class 12. The programme blends three years of undergraduate (BBA-style) study with two years of MBA-level management education, and on completion you are awarded an MBA. IIM Indore pioneered it, IIM Rohtak runs its own version, and several other IIMs now offer similar five-year integrated programmes.
The test measures aptitude rather than school syllabus recall. IIM Indore's paper has a Quantitative Ability section — with both multiple-choice and short-answer (type-in) questions — and a Verbal Ability section; IIM Rohtak's paper additionally has a Logical Reasoning section. Because most questions carry negative marking and the paper is timed at roughly two hours, speed, accuracy and section balance decide your score. Clearing the cutoffs earns a shortlist call for a Written Ability Test and Personal Interview.
