JPSC Civil Service Mock Tests, Syllabus & Complete Exam Guide

The JPSC Combined Civil Service examination is conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission, headquartered at Ranchi. It is the gateway to gazetted administrative careers in the Government of Jharkhand — posts such as Deputy Collector in the Jharkhand Administrative Service, Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Jharkhand Police Service, Block Development Officer, Circle Officer, District Registrar and many other Group A and Group B cadres are filled through a single competitive exam.

The selection runs across three stages. The Preliminary exam is an objective, OMR-based screening test with two General Studies papers, and it commonly carries no negative marking — so candidates can attempt every question without a wrong-answer penalty. Those who clear it sit the descriptive Mains, which includes compulsory language papers and General Studies, and the process ends with a Personality Test (Interview). Final merit is built from the Mains written papers and the Interview — Prelims marks do not carry forward.

Prelims is a filter, so build strong, revisable foundations in Indian and world history, Indian polity and governance, geography, the Indian economy, general science, environment and current affairs. Because JPSC weights Jharkhand heavily, a dedicated command of the state's tribal culture and freedom struggle — the Santhal Hul, Birsa Munda's Ulgulan, the Munda, Santhal and Oraon communities, festivals like Sarhul — along with its minerals (coal, iron ore, mica), rivers, forests and the 2000 statehood is often what separates candidates near the cutoff.

With no negative marking in Prelims, attempt every question — there is no penalty for a wrong guess, so leaving blanks only forfeits marks. Full-length timed Prelims mocks train the pacing and section balance the paper demands. In parallel, prepare the descriptive Mains early — practise structured answer-writing, the General Studies papers and the compulsory Hindi paper in Devanagari — because the written stage plus interview, not Prelims, decide your final rank.
