What is the Kerala PSC Assistant Engineer exam?
The Kerala Public Service Commission recruits Assistant Engineers in the Civil, Electrical and Mechanical disciplines for a range of state government departments and public sector undertakings — including the Public Works Department, Irrigation, the Kerala State Electricity Board, local self-government bodies and various PSUs. Selection runs through a single objective test whose score builds a ranked list, from which candidates are called in rank order for certificate verification and appointment as vacancies arise.
The paper pairs a discipline-specific engineering part — degree-level fundamentals of the candidate's branch — with general parts covering general knowledge and current affairs, arithmetic and mental ability, and language. For engineers, the discipline part is where ranks are won: strong command of surveying, RCC and fluid mechanics for Civil; circuits and machines for Electrical; and thermodynamics and strength of materials for Mechanical makes the difference on a tightly ranked list.
