The Kerala Public Service Commission recruits Firemen — also called Fire & Rescue Officers — for the Kerala Fire and Rescue Services, the uniformed force that protects life and property from fire and carries out rescue operations across the state. Unlike degree-level Kerala PSC posts, the Fireman post is an SSLC-level uniformed role, so alongside a written test it demands a Physical Efficiency Test and an Endurance Test that measure the strength and stamina the job requires.

Selection runs in stages: a single objective written paper — commonly around 100 questions for 100 marks — builds a ranked list, and candidates who clear it are called for physical and endurance testing before appointment in rank order as vacancies arise. Quantitative aptitude and mental ability at plus-two level — arithmetic, mensuration, number series, coding and direction sense — are high-return and reward steady drilling until they are fast and reliable. The Malayalam section rewards practice of grammar, sandhi, samasam, synonyms, antonyms and idioms in the Malayalam script. Because selection is rank-based with no negative marking modelled here, attempt every question, and train in parallel for the Physical Efficiency and Endurance Tests, which a written pass alone cannot substitute.
