SSC JE Mock Tests, Syllabus & Complete Exam Guide

SSC JE is the Staff Selection Commission's recruitment exam for the post of Junior Engineer (Group B, Non-Gazetted) in the Civil, Electrical and Mechanical disciplines. Successful candidates are posted in central government departments and organisations such as the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the Military Engineer Services (MES), the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and several other central departments, where they supervise construction, maintenance and technical works.

Selection has two written stages. Paper I is a 2-hour, 200-question computer-based test across General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness and General Engineering in your chosen discipline. Candidates who clear Paper I sit Paper II, a descriptive/technical paper that probes engineering fundamentals in depth. Because Paper I carries negative marking and rewards both speed and technical accuracy, disciplined attempting and strong diploma-level fundamentals decide who moves ahead.

General Engineering is the heart of the exam — 100 of Paper I's 200 marks — so build rock-solid diploma-level fundamentals in your discipline: for Civil, focus on building materials, surveying, RCC, fluid mechanics, soil mechanics and estimation; for Electrical and Mechanical, master circuits, machines, thermodynamics, strength of materials and machine design. Practise numerical problems until the standard formulae and unit conversions are second nature.

Reasoning and General Awareness together carry the other 100 marks and are quicker to score. Drill analogy, series, coding-decoding and non-verbal reasoning for speed, and build static General Awareness — history, polity, geography and general science — steadily over time. Because every wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, attempt only when you can reason to a confident choice, and use full-length timed mocks to balance the three sections within the 2-hour clock before moving on to Paper II preparation.
