What is the UKPSC PCS exam?
UKPSC PCS is the Combined State Civil / Upper Subordinate Services examination conducted by the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, headquartered at Haridwar. It is the gateway to gazetted administrative careers in the Uttarakhand government — posts such as Deputy Collector (SDM), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Block Development Officer, Tehsildar, District Supply Officer and many other Group A and Group B cadres are filled through a single competitive exam.
The selection runs across three stages. The Preliminary exam is an objective, OMR-based screening test made up of a General Studies paper and a CSAT (aptitude) paper, and it carries a representative one-fourth negative marking. Those who clear it sit the descriptive Mains, which includes a compulsory General Hindi paper and an Essay, and the process ends with a Personality Test (Interview). Final merit is built from the Mains written papers and the Interview — Prelims marks do not carry forward.
