UP Lekhpal is a revenue-clerk recruitment conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) to fill the post of Lekhpal — the village-level revenue official, historically the patwari, who sits at the base of the state's revenue administration. A Lekhpal maintains a village's land records such as the Khasra (field register), Khatauni (record of rights) and Shajra (village map), assists in land measurement, mutation and revenue collection, verifies losses for disaster relief and helps deliver rural and welfare schemes on the ground.

Selection runs in two steps. A candidate must first qualify the common UPSSSC Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET), the single screening test for the commission's recruitments, and hold a valid PET score. PET-qualified candidates are then shortlisted for the Lekhpal main exam — a single objective, OMR-based paper of 100 questions for 100 marks in about two hours, split equally across General Hindi, Mathematics, General Knowledge and Village Society & Development. The main exam carries one-fourth negative marking, and final selection follows its merit and document verification.

Because the four sections carry equal weight, balance is everything: no single paper can be ignored. General Hindi rewards steady grammar and vocabulary work in Devanagari — sandhi, samas, gender, antonyms, synonyms and idioms. Mathematics stays at the Class 10 level, so drilling percentage, ratio, interest, average, time-speed-distance, mensuration and simple algebra until they are quick and accurate pays off directly. General Knowledge leans towards Uttar Pradesh, its revenue administration and current affairs, and the Village Society & Development paper — the distinctive Lekhpal section — needs command of panchayati raj, rural development schemes, land revenue, self-help groups and rural society.

The one-fourth negative marking rewards disciplined attempting: solve what you know, eliminate to a confident choice where you can, and leave questions you genuinely cannot judge rather than guessing blindly. Because the whole selection now rests on the main exam, full-length timed mocks under the two-hour clock — with the Hindi section in Devanagari — are the most reliable way to build the pacing, accuracy and section balance the paper demands. Keep a valid PET score current, since the main exam is open only to PET-qualified candidates.
