About the UP Police SI exam

Recruits Sub-Inspectors (Daroga) of the Civil Police and equivalent posts such as Platoon Commander (PAC) — the officers who head police chowkis and investigate cases in Uttar Pradesh.

UP Police SI recruitment

UPPRPB's 2025 recruitment for 4,543 posts of Sub-Inspector (Civil Police) and equivalent posts held its online written exam on 14–15 March 2026. Shortlisted candidates then go through document verification, the Physical Standard Test, the Physical Efficiency Test and a medical examination.

The paper is unusual in combining General Hindi with basic law: questions on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam and the Constitution sit alongside general knowledge.

Graduation from a recognised university.
Age
Generally 21–28 years, with relaxations for reserved categories of Uttar Pradesh as per the notice.
Physical standards
Height 168 cm for men (160 cm for ST) and 152 cm for women (147 cm for ST); chest 79–84 cm for men (77–82 cm for ST).
Physical efficiency
Men: 4.8 km run in 28 minutes. Women: 2.4 km run in 16 minutes (qualifying).
Section minimums
Minimum marks in each section and in aggregate apply, as prescribed in the notice.

The written exam has 160 objective questions of 2.5 marks each (400 marks) in two hours, 40 from each of the four sections, with no negative marking.     Know key BNS sections (हत्या 101/103, चोरी 303, लूट 309, डकैती 310, छल 318) and BNSS provisions (FIR 173, arrest 35, bail 480–482).

    Fundamental rights (Articles 14–32), arrest safeguards (Article 22) and important articles carry many marks.
