UPSSSC PET Mock Tests, Syllabus & Complete Exam Guide

The UPSSSC Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) is a mandatory screening examination conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission, headquartered at Lucknow. Rather than being a recruitment in itself, the PET is a single common gateway: candidates sit one objective paper and the score becomes valid for a fixed period, during which it is used to shortlist them for the main examinations of the Commission's many Group C recruitments — posts such as Lekhpal, Junior Assistant, Village Development Officer (VDO), Junior Engineer and numerous clerical and subordinate cadres in the Uttar Pradesh government.

The PET is an OMR-based paper of 100 questions for 100 marks in 2 hours, covering Indian history and the national movement, geography, the Indian economy, the Constitution and public administration, general science, elementary arithmetic, general Hindi, general English, logical reasoning, current affairs, general awareness and the analysis of unseen passages, graphs and tables. It carries one-fourth negative marking. Because a strong PET score is the precondition for being called to any Group C main exam, the PET has effectively become the single most important first hurdle for lakhs of UP aspirants each year.

Because the PET syllabus is broad but pitched at the 10+2 level, the winning approach is wide, revisable coverage rather than deep specialisation. Build strong foundations across Indian and UP polity, economy and administration, history, geography, general science and elementary arithmetic, and drill logical reasoning and general awareness until they are quick marks. Give Uttar Pradesh's own polity, economy and administration dedicated attention — the state-specific questions reward candidates who know how UP is governed at the division, district and village level.

The one-fourth negative marking rewards disciplined attempting: solve what you know, eliminate to a confident choice where you can, and leave questions you genuinely cannot judge rather than guessing blindly. Practise the unseen-passage, graph and table questions under time pressure, since they are scoring but slow. Above all, take full-length timed mocks under the two-hour clock to build the pacing and section balance the 100-question paper demands, and review the worked solution for every question you miss — including the General Hindi section, which is set in Devanagari.
