The new Paper 1
Paper 1 is now 100 questions for 100 marks in 60 minutes, down from 200 questions in 2 hours. Each of the four sections has its own 15-minute timer, and the paper moves to the next section automatically when the time runs out. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks.
- General Intelligence & Reasoning: 25 questions, 25 marks, 15 minutes.
- General Knowledge & General Awareness: 25 questions, 25 marks, 15 minutes.
- Quantitative Aptitude: 25 questions, 25 marks, 15 minutes.
- English Comprehension: 25 questions, 25 marks, 15 minutes.
What this means for preparation
Old CPO papers trained you to spend 120 minutes as you liked. That is gone. You now get 36 seconds per question, and no chance to move spare GK time to Quant. Practise every section under its own 15-minute timer. Old CPO and CGL questions are still useful for content. Use them as 25-question sectional sets, not 200-question marathons.
Don't neglect the physical stage. The PET/PST comes after Paper 1, and candidates who clear the written test but haven't trained for the race and jumps lose the seat. Train for the PET on most mornings from now on.
