About railway exams
Railway exams, run by the Railway Recruitment Boards, are the highest-volume recruitment in the country: RRB Group D alone has drawn over a crore applications in a single cycle. They fill everything from frontline Level 1 posts to Station Masters and clerks, and are offered in fifteen languages, making them uniquely accessible across India.
Group D is a single computer-based test at 10th-standard level — Mathematics, Reasoning, General Science and General Awareness — followed by a qualifying Physical Efficiency Test. NTPC is a two-stage CBT for non-technical posts like Station Master and clerk, with a Computer-Based Aptitude Test or Typing Test for certain roles. Both carry 1/3 negative marking and normalise scores across shifts.

Score heavily in Science and Reasoning
In Group D, General Science carries 25 marks and Reasoning 30 — make these your strongest sections for a comfortable cut-off margin.

Railway CBTs deduct 1/3 mark per wrong answer, so attempt what you can reason towards and avoid true blind guesses that erode your normalised score.
Prepare CBT and PET together

In how many languages can I take the RRB exams?

What is the difference between RRB Group D and NTPC?
Group D fills Level 1 posts (like Track Maintainer and Helper) at 10th standard through a single CBT plus a Physical Efficiency Test. NTPC fills non-technical posts (like Station Master and clerk) at 12th/graduate level through a two-stage CBT, with a CBAT or Typing Test for some posts.
Do railway exams have negative marking?
